Program Notes

Exciting music based on a Nigerian folk hymn, Quincy Hilliard’s setting is perfect for contest or concert use. Interesting harmonies, beautiful tone colors and driving polyrhythms all combine to make this a very appealing selection, especially for groups with large percussion sections.

Variations on an African Hymnsong was commissioned by and is dedicated to the Savannah High School of the Performing Arts Wind Ensemble, Michael E. Hutchinson, director and Dr. Marie A. Polite, Principal, Savannah, Georgia.
