Program Notes

Stanfare, for eight trumpets and timpani, was composed in July and August 1996 for the investiture of R. Stanton Hales as Tenth President of The College of Wooster, Ohio. Intended as a festive, celebratory work, it was performed at the inauguration ceremony on 7 September 1996 by an ensemble of Wooster students under the direction of the composer. Cast in three-part form, the work consists of a lively overture surrounded by a ceremonial fanfare and coda.

Additional performances have included: the University of Kentucky Trumpet Ensemble; the University of Cincinnati Conservatory Symphony Band, Terence Milligan, Director; the Sam Houston State University Trumpet Ensemble; the Wooster Symphony, Jack Gallagher, guest conductor; and the Large Trumpet Ensemble of the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium, Andreas Lackner, Director, Innsbruck, Austria.
